One of the most iconic features of Meridian Hill Park is the sizeable cascading fountain boasting two tiers of magnificent cascades and an impressive water jet at the top. It is operated by the National Park Service, and the fountain shifts to create an ever-changing water display. While its spray does not reach very high, the fountain is still inspiring for visitors who take in its incredible beauty. The breathtaking architecture of Meridian Hill Park is evident in its collection of historical statues and monuments. The equestrian statue of Major General John A. Logan stands in the center of the park. In contrast, a set of statues depicting the Four Freedoms (Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Religion, Freedom from Fear, and Freedom from Want) stands on the upper terrace. A series of granite platforms surround the outer perimeter of the fountain, designed by artist James Earle Fraser in the image of the goddess Columbia. The statue of Joan of Arc and several other monuments are also displayed within the park.
