Shopping At The Best Farmers Markets In Washington DC

One of the best places to visit in Washington DC is the farmers market. I have always believed that you get a real buzz of any city in the farmers market. This is mainly because these markets are usually filled with locals. Unlike those modern shopping malls that are filled with tourists and all kinds of visiting customers, farmers markets are where locals bring their fresh produce and locals buy stuff. Farmers markets usually sell fresh farm produce. You will get all types of local vegetables, fruits, meats, and other farm products in these markets. They also sell art, flowers, and all kinds of local dishes. In addition to being the capital of the United States, Washington DC also has some of the finest farmers markets in the country. I have made a point of visiting a different farmers market every time I am in the city and I can confidently say I recommend the following.

Fresh Produce At FRESHFARM Farmers’ Market

FRESHFARM markets are farmers markets located in many different parts of the city. Some of these markets are open throughout the year but others open for only a few months. The best FRESHFARM farmers’ market is located in Dupont Circle. This market is open throughout the year in one of the busiest neighborhoods in DC. Local and regional farmers bring all types of fresh fruits and vegetables, fish, meats, cheeses, breads, and poultry. They also sell freshly cut flowers, herbal products, and potted plants. The Mount Vernon Triangle FRESHFARM market is also great. It’s open every Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm from May to October. You can get a full list of all FRESHFARM farmers markets in DC from their website.

Local Produce Only At The Bloomingdale Farmers’ Market

The Bloomingdale Farmers’ Market is affectionately referred to as “BFM” by the locals. This market is open every Sunday from 9 am to 1 pm from May till November. The Bloomingdale Farmers’ Market is found on R Street between 1st Street and Florida Avenue NW. The amazing thing about this market is that it only allows locally produced farm products including eggs, breads, cheeses, fruits, vegetables, poultry, and grass-fed meats.

Excellent Food At The Columbia Heights Farmers Market

Located at Civic Plaza on 14th Street and Park Road NW, the Columbia Heights Farmers Market is open on Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm from April till December and on Wednesdays from 4-7 pm from May till October. I have bought many fresh farm products in this market including breads, cheeses, seafood, and fresh produce. You can also enjoy fresh ice cream and delicious tacos in this market.

Weekend Shopping At The 14&U Farmers’ Market

The 14&U Farmers’ Market is a seasonal market that operates from May through November. It’s open every Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm. Locals flock this market to buy fresh meats and vegetables, fruits, handmade pies, cheeses, and fishes. You can also buy freshly cut flowers and plants in this market. It’s a really great place to tour while enjoying fresh ice cream or even tasty cookies.
