The North Michigan Park is a relatively new (and relatively unknown) park in Washington, DC. It is located in Wheaton, a suburb of Wheaton, and the closest park to it is across the Potomac River in Sterling, Virginia. While Wheaton is a decent size city, it lacks some of the amenities that many other cities have. This particular park was created by the Maryland Department of Parks and Recreation (MDPD). The first section of the park was built in 1995 and is a beautiful expanse of woods and a small lake area. The second section was built in 1996 and includes picnic tables, playgrounds, and restrooms. It also has hiking paths, swimming pools, and an observation tower. The Wheaton area has seen rapid growth in tourism over the past decade and a half, mostly because of the Potomac River being so close to the park. Many visitors come here for a respite from the city life and take in the tranquil beauty found here. The town of Wheaton even hosted the 2020 Democratic National Convention here. Because of the proximity to the park, the Wheaton area is being developed with housing as the primary goal.
